Question regarding shot No. 7 of the "Sunset Limited" at Glendale with 12 cars in 1940. I thought No 2 departed from then LAUPT at night and ran to New Orleans or was there a coast section to SFO ala the The Lark or Coaster? Good photo quality for something of that vintage.

The last fully streamlined GSs were assigned to the Coast line, for the Daylight and the Lark. Also, many of the GSs were painted all black during the war, and many of those never ran in their colors again. I would imagine skirts were removed at the first shopping after the war. Running skirtless does sound provocative and even a bit obscene, eh? As much as I preferred the full Daylight look, a skirt less, all black GS does appear more burly and powerful to me. That conflict causes headaches on a frequent basis...can't have it both ways, I guess AA
