Back during the "come back" of the Centennials in the mid 1980s I was giving Video Rails a cab ride westbound over Sherman Hill. When we approached the tunnels the cameraman wanted to open the nose door so he could get a clear shot going into the tunnels. We said sure and he took up his position. As we rolled through the cut I spotted a couple of railfans up high on the slope near the portal, I couldn't tell if they bothered to take the shot but I could well imagine what they were saying.

The tunnels are about 1/4 miles long. upkpfan
