UP NW2 7007 RARE!
Author: brc600

The UP had a stored NW2 1007, one of the few left in July, 1985 when this was taken. The new ex P&LE MP15DC's were given 1275-1289 above the SW10's. Then, UP re # them 1000-1014. NW2 1007 was the only conflict, so it became 7007! It never operated like this. It went to scrap like this. Tim Vana/Omaha, NE brc600

Considering the poster, not far off base.

No, this is an actual picture! My brother shot this and scanned his slide. I have my own identical shot. I should have a pic of MP15DC 1007 which is why this happened. brc600

Looks like somebody found a roll of red tape to me.
Is it April already?

Show me the number boards!

Not unlikely at all. Consider UP's use of WP reporting marks hastily sprayed on retired GE's to avoid conflicts with new units. I've also seen BNSF do the same thing with GN reporting marks.

Tim, where was this shot taken? I remember dead lines in CB with the occasional NW, but not in an area with lots of trees.

Sorry Rob but it is not a hoax. I have a slide of UP 7007 taken in Kansas City KS on April 11, 1986 (shown here). It is indeed a RARE slide if one has it.

On its way to scrap. IIRC, St. Louis Auto Shredding got it. Wait till I scan NW2 1039. It had the large numbers only on the cab side. Two NW2's got that treatment--RARE as well. brc600

What does that mean?

John; This is south of UP Omaha Shops adjacent to the CNW tracks that ran to North Omaha. The MP used these tracks to get to their yard as well as interchange with UP. brc600

I have many RARE shots of detours, obscure units, off-the-beaten path stuff. People don't believe it until my brothers and I share it at slide shows. Wait till I post Nebraska narrow-gauge industrial plant units. These lasted until recently. Guaranteed mind-blowing.

This is ASARCO (right by the 7007 location), Endicott Clay Brick (NE-KS border) and Nebraska Midland.

I also do NOT buy railroad industry conventional wisdom. That's another post!

Thanks for YOUR shot. I was hoping more people caught it. I try to tip off people on stuff coming their way so they can see it as well. brc600 Tim Vana/Omaha, NE

Here is what Utah Rails says about 1007:

Briefly renumbered to UP 7007, after retired but awaiting disposition, to avoid conflict with newly arrived former P&LE MP15s; sold for scrap to Erman Corp., Turner, Kans., in June 1985; in service as Erman-Howell in-plant switcher, with 1007 number, as late as 1990.

I forgot to put caption date of July 4, 1985. IIRC, 1039 went to St. Louis Auto Shredding. brc600

Nothing to be sorry about.
