Nostalgia & History > SP Location NeededDate: 10/07/13 17:21 SP Location Needed Author: CrudPunko I'm going through parts of the Jim Wren collection that have yet to be scanned and ran across this little gem of SP 4363 and NW2 1317 at some unknown location circa 1952 or so. This is a Ray Whitaker photo. Anyone have an idea where this is? (I'm guessing Roseville)

Anybody got a better eye on the photo? --Jim Baker Date: 10/07/13 19:22 Re: SP Location Needed Author: JimBaker More,,,
Train 55 is the 'Tehachapi': Los Angeles to Fresno. I'll bet this is Fresno. --Jim Baker Date: 10/07/13 19:29 Re: SP Location Needed Author: agentatascadero A check in the December, 1954 OG reveals SP train #55 would be the San Joaquin route Oakland - LA local passenger train. Someone else will have to place the location. That train number board is very fuzzy, but I think it is "55", but for a while, I thought it to be #43, which would be a Golden State route train. AA

I looked at a 1938 SP timetable and it does show Train 55 is LA to Fresno. I don't know how long Train 55 ran but I think Fresno would be a good guess on this location. Edited 1 time(s). But the conical tower on the depot, and the general layout of tracks, make Fresno almost a dead lock for location.
Hey! I was just there! I mean... right actual there! The station is preserved (as an office), the Pullman Shed is sagging a little at one column and occupied by business storage units, and it's on the Historic Register... which means you can (sorta) go home again. ~ BZ Date: 10/08/13 01:39 Re: SP Location Needed Author: Fizzboy7 Notch16 Wrote:
