D&RGW Ski Train rollin' on the Big Ten
Author: valmont

History for sure, as this train has gone the the way of so many other RR icons .... Bruce Black captured this on the Big Ten, ascending the Front Range of the Rockies, west of Denver, in March of 1977.

- Sniff - Sigh, yeah, the Front Range is sure not the same anymore in the winter. When the skies are gray, and the wind is cold, I remember... (With credit due to C.W. McCall) === === = === JLH

Great shot! That train was always a sure bet heading West on Winter weekends, sure do miss it:{ Looks to be taken before the West end of Rocky siding was extended.

Operating crews on that ski train shown in the shot above were based out of Denver and worked between Denver and Phippsburg, CO.

So, were the foamers happy with the train back then, or did they all gripe about the Fs being gone?

Just curious.

That is a simply spectacular shot, of a train I always hoped to catch and photograph... but never did.

they would usually touch up the cars over the summer, when these cars went to NAPA i think there were two types of silver in use, a silver silver, like on UP's trucks and a more graphite silver on some of the coaches below the windows, can't tell from here, maybe they were still uniform. ANOTHER EXPLANATION IS COAL DUST IN THE MOFFAT would degrade the older paint.
