St. Louis in early 70s-2
Author: MEKoch

Yesterday I pictured MKT, CB&Q, N&W. Today I begin with Frisco, whose principal yard was Lindenwood on the southwest side of St. Louis; one line led southeast to Memphis; the other line southwest to Springfield, MO.
1) A Frisco transfer operation to the Chrysler auto plants in Fenton in May, 1971.
2) A 2nd transfer run at Valley Park in June, 1973
3) a 3rd transfer run eastbound at Tower Grove west of downtown St. Louis about two miles in August 1973. Crossing of MP passenger line thru south St. Louis to Broadway Jct.

5) 2nd train with F unit between big power
6) MoPac at 23rd st. westbound in St. Louis on 12-31-72. Besides 23rd St., MP had big yard across the river in Dupo, IL, as well as half ownership in the A&S. Also Lesperance St. Yd. on southside of St. Louis

More Great scenes! I like the MOP engines with the PC Caboose. The 4 MOP U30C's on the coal train is also WAY cool, I bet they sounded Great heading up to the bridge.

Great photo set. the trackwork is phenomenal, the double diamonds with a crossover looks like something from the Atlas Layout track planner.

Most likely my Brother in Law was the engineer on the Chrysler turns.

Marvelous series. Brings back a lot of memories, especially those MP U30C's, probably my favorite power at the time (although I know they were not beloved among the crews or in the shop). Thanks for posting them!

Those stacks on the RS3's are pretty interesting. I have never seen 3 on an EMD, they usually have 2 or 4.

"My Compliments to the Chef!"

Lots of memories for me in those views, too. The volume of traffic and switching activity to the south of the Union Station wyes in those days was mind-boggling.
