Nostalgia & History > MILW 105-C, need location.Date: 12/14/13 16:06 MILW 105-C, need location. Author: Evan_Werkema Another unlabeled, unattributed negative, this time apparently showing Milwaukee Road FP7 105-C on a passenger train...somewhere. Anybody recognize the location, train, or any other useful details?

George Date: 12/14/13 18:41 Re: MILW 105-C, need location. Author: steeplecab Probably not Miles City, as MC had a large brick depot. But it's certainly a major stop, as the unit is hooked up to water to fill the steam generator tanks.

Evan, it looks to me like the number boards say 105D, not 105C. But then, my eyes aren't very good any more, and it is a low-res shot, so I could well be wrong. My gut says it's from the mid 1950s in Illinois or Iowa.

I'm thinking Miles City only because it was the major service stop being roughly halfway between Chicago and Seattle. I tend to agree with Al that it looks like the the Midwest, like the Chicago-Omaha line. But shouldn't it be double-track? Too much train for anywhere else. Edited 1 time(s). Not a coal tower? Not an oil tower? But why would they need a sand tower at the depot? Wasn't the Miles City depot on the south side of the track? Edited 1 time(s). The building is the former MILW division offices (Trans Missouri) in Miles City, in later years it became the "everything building". The division offices were on the South side of the main, and as I recall East of the brick passenger depot. In the photo below the building is now serving as the offices for the Transco private car shop which has occupied the former MILW shops for at least 25 years. I specifically recall the well manicured lawn between the Division Office building and the concrete station platform. Also included below is a photo of the former MILW passenger station which has been storage for the school district for some time.
George Date: 12/16/13 13:07 Re: MILW Author: timz2 So you figure it's the eastward Olym Hiawatha
at Miles City? Date: 12/16/13 17:48 Re: MILW Author: mns019 Eastbound Olympian would be my guess.
George Date: 12/16/13 22:58 Re: MILW Author: Evan_Werkema Thanks for the answer!
