Wow, I thought, an SDP35, and nice clean L&N paint (a scheme I happen to like). I noted the extra space at the rear for the steam generator. So, why weren't they so equipped? Did the L&N have plans for them in passenger service which never materialized as the train-offs continued? Inherited somehow from another road? Or were they pick-ups the L&N got when another road cancelled an order? Inquiring minds ask. Thanks in advance for the answer. I didn't know they never had SGs. What was the reason for L&N ordering SDP35s, and why did they have the SG compartment side grilles, unlike non-SG equipped EL SDP45s? UPDATE. I found this message: "The L&N SDP35s were never used in passenger train service. After the units were ordered from EMD they got a very good deal on used SLSF E units. The SDP35's of the L&N never had steam generators installed. This I learned from Ron Flanary at a summerail in 2010. AS for The units from SAL, I have no clue. Sneebly" Edited 1 time(s).
