Working the SP-WP interchange in Reno
Author: Copy19

The interchange between the Western Pacific in Reno, Nev. with the Southern Pacific main line was an interesting maze of track. The WP branch, a former narrow gauge, came down an alley and made a sharp curve. That's it in the picture going off to the left over the diamond. The SP Alco switcher seems to have boxcars spread all over the interchange to sort things out. I suspect the trench through the area has dramatically changed this scene today.

Another great historical photo John. I remember when we turned on the wye on the north end of that branch at Reno Junction one trip.

Very cool! Hardly ever see photos of the WP in Reno proper.

Thanks!

I think I've posted this before but here's the WP local climbing up out of Reno on its way back to Portola. That's Mt. Rose in the background.

What's the date of that photo? Note the wood FGE reefer and the ACI labels on the boxcars.
