92 day inspection.........
Author: sp5312

anywhere you can. Ex SP3838 at Pabco plant north of Las Vegas. I had a contract side business at one time and this was one of my clients. It was a unique operation where you would go out to Apex and pick up the empty center beams, drop them in the siding, which was on a grade so a lot of handbrakes, pull the loads out and run around them, shoving them back to Apex. Once around the horeshoe curve that was on a large fill it was straight to 8 and sit back. In this shot I was doing a 92 day inspection. We would run it up out of all that gypsum to get under it for the traction motor inspection. Kind of miss those days sometimes.

Did SP have the headlight lowered to this position prior to this ownership? Just wondering why it wouldn't have been placed higher where the oval plate is. Whatever, nice looking engine.

That's where the headlight always was. The oval plate (and the circular one above it) were the locations of the Pyle-National Gyralite signal lights it was originally equipped with. SP started removing the Gyralites in the mid/late 1980s as a cost-cutting measure; the locations were simply plated over, and the dual sealed beam headlight stayed in its as-built location. A Prime PM-8911 "Stratolite" digital warning beacon was typically added to the cab roof at the same time...nowhere near as attention-getting as the Gyralites, but that's another story.
