Nostalgia & History > B&O Wheeling-PittsburghDate: 07/25/14 07:07 B&O Wheeling-Pittsburgh Author: pramer Can one view the tunnels between Wheeling and Washington, Pa? Access?
Paul Ramer Cincinnati, OH Date: 07/26/14 14:03 Re: B&O Wheeling-Pittsburgh Author: dbrcnw The only one I can say for certain is in East Wheeling which is easily reached on a walk/bike trail which goes through the tunnel. Use I-70 in Wheeling and take the Washington Avenue exit. Go west on the road which parallels the Interstate and pull over in a safe parking location. Then walk the trail to the tunnel. I don't know about the one at West Alexander, PA.
When you walk out the west end of the tunnel and onto the stone viaduct be sure to look down at the tracks of the Wheeling Terminal Railroad which are still visible through the weeds. If you're interested in that go to 20th Street at the Ohio Valley Medical Center and you can see the tunnel almost under the hospital which was used by the Wheeling Terminal. DaleR Edited 1 time(s).
