Utah Ry RSD's
Author: FT

The first time I got to cross paths with Utah Railway was 1969. The show they put on moving coal and returning empties over Soldier Summit was awe inspiring.

Three chug to the top of the pass, let by 303. 7/23/69

Four pass through Thistle, or the future site of Lake Thistle, before the landslide. The 306 is still alive, serving as shop switcher at the Museum in Portland (as NKP). 6-71

Last is the shop at Martin. with the ex SF Gators, still with ATSF numbers and lettering. 6-24-75 At the time an all ALCO shop.

They're GS gons, they unload via the drop doors.

Nice captures of the UTAH ALCOs working on the mainline, Keith.

By the time I "discovered" the UTAH RSD-4/5s in 1980, they were primarily working the mine runs out of Martin.

Even though I was able to get some wonderful shots of the "local" operations, I always regretted not having been able to shoot and watch them in road service.

Best regards,

Keith .... guess the 'Gators were an added Alco draw that summer ... took this on June 11, 1975. Gators had small sub-lettering on cab indicated they were leased to the Utah.
