Locomotive Management Services (LMX Leasing) purchased 102 B39-8Es -- the initial 100 unit order and two wreck replacements. Pictured here are LMX 8581 and 8573 heading a freight train during the morning commuter rush on the BN/Metra line at Lisle, IL on May 13, 1991. I took four pictures. Two with perfect light on the locomotives and two as the train was passing into almost the sun. The fourth picture turned into a pretty interesting B&W silhouette.

always liked the "lomax" units. from what i gather, they were not much for creature comfort nor well suited for heavy grades. still, gotta think that they were good shooter power as trailing units. thanks for the fine post!

Nice shots. I remember as a teenage railfan at the time being incensed that they didn't come in BN colors but they eventually grew on me.

Nice set of PIC's Marty. I always like seeing shots showing the containers on those early 1990's trains, the clean smooth side NYK containers right behind the engines are very cool.
