Tennessee Pass
Author: pummer

Southern Pacific eastbound coal train emerges from the summit tunnel on Tennessee Pass in Colorado on May 12, 1993. The number boards are remarkably clean when compared to the rest of the unit. I recall ending up waist-deep in the snow while running to get this shot. Instead of continuing to follow the train, I hurried to Denver to catch a baseball game of the brand new Colorado Rockies.

This is a favorite location to photograph, or perhaps was.

I miss the Southern Pacific and seeing sooty beat up engines pulling trains up the mountain. At the same time, you have to love the half finished ditch light installation on this unit - l guess they needed to get it back into service ASAP!

Nice photo and great-looking lead unit! That indeed is funny about the incomplete ditchlights. The clean number boards are most likely due to being new. I'm sure in a few weeks they matched the rest of the loco.
