Nostalgia & History > Treasures in a scrap yardDate: 09/04/14 17:13 Treasures in a scrap yard Author: lamta_jay From Mike Metalis in Downers Grove , Illinois
I don't know if Mike Metalis is a TO member or not but he took some interesting pictures. Slide is labeled as La Grange, Ill on 4-4-1976 MKT 67C F3A-FP7A-FP7A and look at the treasures in the background Thanks for looking and See you down the tracks Jay Date: 09/04/14 17:38 Re: Treasures in a scrap yard Author: Milwaukee Someone with the name Metalis should belong in a scrap yard!
This must be Pielet Brothers next to the EMD plant. What a great loss those two places are to the Chicago area railfan world! Thanks for sharing the photo with us. Edited 1 time(s). The photo is taken from the Joliet Road (original Route 66) overpass, with the IHB/BRC underneath.

I remember all three railroads hauling trains right behind the EMD McCook plant. Although, only the IHB and B&OCT actually serviced the EMD facility. Thanks for the addition. There was NO welcome, so I can see why this was taken from a bridge.

Yeah but they ran that transfer with Alcos!:^D Date: 09/05/14 23:04 Re: Treasures in a scrap yard Author: lwilton Its a bit amusing, or maybe sardonic, that it seems to take three units to pull three empty gondolas.

I was once "welcomed" by a security guard who saw me looking into the place with binoculars off the bridge. While I received the visual tour of his office, he was calling Mr. Pielet to explain that it wasn't a camera. I kid you not. Carl Shaver Lombard, IL Date: 09/06/14 20:19 Re: Treasures in a scrap yard Author: rrhistorian I had no idea that passenger cars were scrapped at Pielet's. However I have seen photos (posted by Gerry Putz on TO?) showing CTA 4000 series cars here.
The best time to photograph Pielet was Sunday afternoons in the fall and winter when the Bears were playing . . . Somehow the security guards seemed preoccupied. Date: 11/23/19 06:44 Re: Treasures in a scrap yard Author: Lackawanna484 bumping this 2014 thread
