Nostalgia & History > PRR in Philly location question

Took a number of photos, including these two, in the
Philly area in Sept of 1966. These are the only ones
showing background which may give a clue as to exact
location. Can anyone ID the terminal ?

The gentlemen walking in one shot is Dave Engman, a
longtime resident of that area, who passed away
couple years back.

Island of the misfit toys?

Perhaps West Philadelphia enginehouse at 46th & Parkside Ave???

In the first image there appears the roof of a building above the Baldwin transfer unit on the left and the front of the Baldwin transfer unit in the center. On Google Maps, Street View, a similar roof appears on a building in Fairmount Park, on Avenue of the Republic.

The building is now identified as the "Please Touch Museum." I believe the structure dates back to the Centennial Exposition of 1876. I know PRR had a roundhouse in that area in the late 1940s. I can remember my father taking me there and a hostler taking inside the cab of a steam engine.

BoeJoe is correct it is the old engine house off of Parkside Ave Although at approx 46th st. was accessed from 44th street. It was at the northeast corner of the big 44th st. freight yard. Conrail closed the place around 1980, and now the whole thing is an urban industrial park.

Those big Baldwin transfer diesels used to run the Schuylkill Division The Division branched off the mainline near there. The stub is the Cynwyd Line of Septa today.
