building of the OSL?
Author: badtanker1987

Last spike ceremony for OSL and ORy&N at Huntington, Oregon was on November 20, 1884. So that will be 130 years this November. I been busy trying to find out more about it. There are books, documentaries, tv shows, and movies about the building of the Union Pacific Railroad. Any good publications of the OSL? Thanks in advance.

Seems to be a gap between 'Union Pacific in the Northwest' by Jeff Asay and the 'LA&SL' book by Mark Hemphill. There is some info and photos in the LA&SL book, also on Don Stracks webpages. I need to go back to the Asay book and nit pick a little more, it's a very interesting book to read, I'm a bit rusty on it though, the CP Promontory posts have me interested.

Here's a Wikipedia with the essentials, always wonder who writes these:

Don Strack's webpage:

Some of the other info on the web goes like: they built it, they re-guaged it, then they sold it. It was a long time ago though.

You can find much more detailed information on this web page:

There are links to OSL Ry. of 1881-1889, and to OSL&UN of 1889-1897.

A Google search for "Oregon Short Line" also works pretty good...
