Nostalgia & History > Fallen Flags - Current & FutureDate: 09/28/14 18:01 Fallen Flags - Current & Future Author: NKP715 The comings and goings around the Erie,PA GE plant
always provided for a variety of photo opportunities. Here's several from the mid '60's. We didn't know then of the "Fallen Flag" term. First, on July 20, 1965, East Erie Commercial 70 tonner No 17 had just set out EL U25B 2514, as a westbound N&W train with an NKP painted unit leading passes. Most likely, the 2514 would later be moved by the N&W Erie based yard power across town for interchange with the Bessemer and Lake Erie for delivery to the EL. Next, an N&W westbound passes GN 2515, another U25B, "just out of the box." A road freight will forward her west. Date is Apr 23, 1965. Last pic depicts activity opposite from new power delivery. A WB NKP freight has just set out NH 0425, a U25B trade-in. The date is Oct 6, 1964, and in just 10 days, the NKP road name evident on the GP-30's and GP-9, and on the box cars, will become a Fallen Flag. While the FA-l's days are numbered, it'll be another 4 years before the NH's flag suffers a similar fate. Edited 1 time(s). Last edit at 09/28/14 18:23 by NKP715.
