#1 @ De Smet, SD. these 6, #'s 1613,1551,1553,1620,1621,53 were on "Train 482"according to what Bruce wrote on the mount. The date was 5/25/75. #2 same train, same day @ Iroquois, SD He loved those Alco's almost as much as the Milwaukee Electrics ... Thanks for posting, Rob L. Date: 09/29/14 16:37 Re: 6 C&NW Alco's Tr 482, 2 more Bruce Black classics Author: waycar_rider The two grain elevators have been torn out. They saved the depot as a museum. I was through this area, August. I was photographing grain elevators.

All hail the Land Barge of the Plains. Alco Powered. Just like a lot of river towboats pushing real barges -- on water. And probably just about as slowly. MC Columbia, Missouri Edited 1 time(s). It looks like last unit is and RS2 (non-MU), which would be heading to Tracy or Waseca. Heck, back in those days it was probably idling the whole trip. Dennis Date: 09/29/14 19:05 Re: 6 C&NW Alco's Tr 482, 2 more Bruce Black classics Author: valmont CNW Wrote:

The string of boxcars in pic two are on one the branch from Iroquois to Haywarden Iowa. I can't get over these photos. I had let my membership lapse, but when I saw these I signed back up for another year! Keep up the good work. I hope there are more!

Noted the 1613 the leader of this lashup, which would be unusual. This engine, and the 1624 both got 251's and were usually mated with the 405 between Huron and Pierre on the 495/482 pair. Power changed at Pierre with Chadron assigned Geeps. Later, the Alcos ran through to Rapid City, but that didn't last. Nice photos, Vince, thanks for posting. Nick Tharalson, Marion, IA |
