One of the joys of railfanning a multiple main track railroad is to catch 2 trains at once each going the same direction. Here I am at Courtney MO back in January 1998 as TR 4 the Southwest Chief is passing UP 6278 E which is heading for the UP River sub.

First time I have ever seen 4 Genesis locomotives on one Amtrak train.

That must have been one really looooooong Amtrak train to have 4 engines

At the peak of the mail/express/roadrailer business 3-4 were allowed to operate with
up to 50 cars, and 4 units were needed to handle the Southwest's requirements to
climb 3.5% and reach 90 MPH.

Come to think of it, that was (and is) some impressive locomotive performance.
