A Surprise Zephyr Picture
Author: MartyBernard

While searching the Wisconsin Historical Society's Online Collection I found this picture of one of the CB&Q's first Twin Zephyrs. The data with it:

The diesel-powered Zephyr passenger train of the Chicago, Burlington & Quincy Railroad on the tracks at the depot. The [Pioneer] Zephyr was introduced at the Chicago Exposition of Progress in 1933, an event which marked the end of the era of steam-powered locomotives.

That technological marvel of the early '30's looks to be Lilliputian and quaint when looking at this photo from my present day eyes.

That is not the Pioneer Zephyr. The pioneer Zephyr is easy to distinguish from the others by it beetle brow windshield. That appears to be one of the Twin Cities Zephyrs, 9901 or 9902.

Of course you are right. I should have looked more closely. I fixed it. Thanks for catching that.

All I did was find it at a historical society's online collection. That's not amazing. Now if I had taken and posted it, that would be amazing and I'd be about 95.
