Hunting party posed in front of Chicago, Milwaukee & St. Paul Railway car; killed birds and ducks decorate the car and are piled on the ground.

In 1870, a flock of passenger pigeons literally darkened the sky, taking days to pass a single point (from front of the flock to rear). By 1900, they were virtually extinct, save for some birds in the Milwaukee, Chicago & Cincinnati Zoos. Martha, the last one (we know about) was in Cincinnati.

More than a billion birds wiped out in less than 30 years.

But hesitate just a tad before 'crediting' the Evil Human Race with that whole deed. While there is no doubt that a lot got shot/trapped/eaten/poisoned, it may well be that Mother Nature was herself responsible for most all of the change, due to a changing weather pattern or the like. Such things do happen, but Activists then blame even that on the Evil Human Race.
