Rio Grande Black Grande Semi Trailers
Author: jc76

Trainworx recently did an N scale 40' Rio Grande Semi that had a small white patch with a "Flying Grande" logo in black. Does anyone happen to know the aprox service years of these truck trailers? I am guessing they were delivered in the mid-70s....Anyone know how long they lasted?

If I had to guess, I'd say delivery in the mid-late 60's rather than 70's - hopefully someone with information on this will chime in. IIRC, 45' trailers began intermodal service around 1982 so that would have been the beginning of the end for 40' trailers on flat cars, although some 40' trailers would have been used in TOFC service well into the mid-1980's.

Cheers, Jim Fitch
