Nostalgia & History > Traction Action: Berkeley, Calif. F-trainDate: 11/21/14 23:38 Traction Action: Berkeley, Calif. F-train Author: stash Not much information about the photo or the photographer. But the afternoon sun shining on a 3-unit eastbound train indicates the evening commute period. The location is Berryman Street, Berkeley, on the F line. Two more stops until the Solano Avenue terminus. The road parallel to the railway is Henry Street.
After the Key trains were discontinued in April 1958 the city widened the road to include the former Key System right of way. Southern Pacific electric red trains ran here until 1941. In fact, SP built the line. The photographer is standing in what was a small storage yard for SP electric cars and looking at the pavement at Berryman Street, the location of the entrance track seems visible. The kid on the bicycle is probably enjoying the meet with the F train. Chances are he became a railfan. Date: 11/22/14 01:12 Re: Traction Action: Berkeley, Calif.
