Nostalgia & History > The Milwaukee Road Varsity, 1966 and 1967Date: 11/25/14 19:01 The Milwaukee Road Varsity, 1966 and 1967 Author: MartyBernard My friend Rick Burn photographed Milwaukee Road Train 118, the southbound Varsity (Madison to Chicago) at sunset on at least two occasions. As you look at these pictures, remember he was shooting Kodachrome. According to the public timetable of October 31, 1956, The Varsity left Madison at 5:45 pm, made one of its intermediate stops at Janesville, WI at 6:49, and arrived in Chicago Union Station at 8:45. His shots were taken near Janesville. Surprisingly, I did very little to bring his slides back. I purposely left them on the dark side. I think you will find them delightful.
1. and 2. September 1966 north of Janesville with E7A 18B up front. 3. and 4. May 1967 at Milton Junction with E7A 18A. Nice pictures Rick. Comments and corrections welcome. I checked Google Earth street view. That mustang and VW bus are not there anymore. LOL! Cool restaurant at the depot though. Marty's shot would be to the left near the grain bins in that pic. Dave
