Nostalgia & History > "Night Ghosts" of the Sacramento NorthernDate: 11/26/14 16:22 "Night Ghosts" of the Sacramento Northern Author: KeyRouteKen This is a repeat from a write-up I did a few years ago. Maybe the newer viewers might enjoy seeing it especially with BoilingMan's SN adventure series..
For further reference, see: http://www.trainorders.com/discussion/read.php?11,1524067 1. SN 1005 is getting ready to depart 40th & Shafter station in Oakland, CA. 2. An SN train and an SP-IER "Blimp" run parallel in the Bridge Yard-- Oakland. The SP car is running on 1200 volts DC.. The SN car is running on 600 volts DC. Further up the line toward the Bay Bridge onramp, there will be a section insulator in the overhead catenary. From that point, both SN and IER cars will run on 1200 volts DC. The KEY SYSTEM will draw 600 volts DC from the outside third rail.. Tricky, huh ? Photos courtesy Norm Spaulding Collection. If you have anything on the Chico area that would be great. I have to repost the pic of me hanging on the side of the SN 1005 in Marysville back in the early 60s.
