N&W Chicago Passenger Trains, March 30, 1971

1. Train 113 departing Dearborn Station, Chicago. A L&N E-unit is lurking in the background.

2. Train 121, "The City of Decatur", departing Dearborn Station.

GP9s 505 and 506 were steam generator equipped. These are of course ex-Wabash trains.

Before I left there for Cheyenne I used to see the late afternoon Orland Park commuter train occasionally. On Fridays after they unloaded at Orland they would run the train down to Decatur (I think) for weekend servicing.

Marty, we probably crossed paths, I was so-so railfan at that time but was out for the final days.

Old N&W RR operating crews on the N&W passenger trains were based out of Decatur, IL and worked between Dacatur and Chicago.
