This was a fun mystery to unravel. As EOTL mentions, it's definitely a Big 4/NYC "tower on stilts." Not on the LE&W or NKP location of Hobbs Indiana--this one is in Illinois. That picture from here the other day with images around Chrisman, Illinois was the big tell...it had to be in the area.

After that I let gizoogle do the walking...

Illinois Railroad and Warehouse Commission approval number 383: Permits issuedJune 21, 1911 to operate yards: "Hobbs" located at Lyons Yard "OD" call sign.
here's a flickr pic of the yard track arrangements at Lyons Yard on the mainline between Danville and Cairo, Illinois. The yard itself is just south of Danville, Illiniois
Scott Withrow has a map on his flickr site:

And now you know.....the rest of the story!

The tower is now at the Indiana Transportation Museum in Noblesville.

Again, Not the Hobbs, Indiana station (which is located at Forest Park in Noblesville, In at the Indiana Transportation Museum) This Tower was located in Danville, Illinois, at the entrance to Lyons Yard on the NYC Egyptian Line, and I doubt it exists today.

Besides the "stilts", wasn't it unusual to have the levers and locking mechanism on the side of the tower "away" from the mains?

Friends had a dog named Hobbs. Like the tower he remains no more..
The dog was much better looking that than goofy tower! I guess it has alot to do with what you were used to seeing way back when.
