Thanks again, that's clearly the tender my dad and I were sitting on in the photo I have. Great memory. I can't thank you enough.

Laid Up Bad Order(LUBO).
Laid Up Good Order (LUGO).
That's how Santa Fe classified stored locomotives.

Not related to the engine but yes it was the New Frontier. They had a western themed town off to the side of the hotel that had this engine and collection of cars. I never saw it because it pre-dates me being alive but I love Las Vegas history and have seen photos of the hotel and the area before. My first memory of Las Vegas is from the late 70's, we were on our way home from a cross country trip and my parents and I stayed at a motel across the street from there. The thing I always remember is the construction, everywhere you went on the strip the sidewalks and street were under construction. 40 years later no matter where you go on the strip there is construction. The more things change there the more they stay the same.

I think that may have been the same equipment I saw on display in the late 1970s at the casino at the top of Railroad Pass between Henderson and Boulder City.

At that point, it was known as the Hotel Last Frontier. The train was in the Western Village.

Yes, the same equipment. Only it was on 93 between Boulder City and Hoover Dam. It was painted up as the "Gold Strike Express", and sat next to the Gold Strike Hotel & Casino. After that, it was moved on top of a ridge across the highway. That hotel-casino is now known as the Hacienda, and the train apparently survives, mostly at the NSRM in BC.

I found an old thread here on TO with a pretty good photo of it and info: http://www.trainorders.com/discussion/read.php?1,184763
