Nostalgia & History > Early BN PNW foreign power?Date: 01/26/15 19:59 Early BN PNW foreign power? Author: Geodyssey During Burlington Northern's first few years (1970 - 1972), what foreign power might have been seen in the Pacific Northwest- say Spokane and west? Not limited to "pool" and run-through power, but also lease units. Obviously WP power was common on Inside Gateway trains, there were some Portland-Seattle SP run-throughs, and the Camas Prairie UP operations. Anything else?

SP run-throughs Eugene - Interbay 1971: Delete leased SP units Add WP run-throughs Bieber - Interbay and Bieber - Pasco Can't think of any additions for the rest of the 1970s. Camas Prairie power stayed on the Camas Prairie, so I don't think the UP units count. Best regards, Rob L. I remember all the foreign power coming into Los Angeles on the SP and UP in that period and wondered if Portland or Seattle experienced anything similar- thought I haven't seen any evidence save the SP & WP operations you mention. I was working UP's East Yard hump one night around 1980 and a train with power from five roads came in- of course I had no camera. Date: 01/26/15 22:49 Re: Early BN PNW foreign power? I think the SP GP35s showed up circa 1977. Here's one in 1977. Best regards, Rob L. Date: 01/27/15 07:21 Re: Early BN PNW foreign power? Author: FiveChime Great photo! I remember seeing SP GP35 6511 in Klamath Falls, Oregon during that time period.
I think there were just a few SP GP35s leased, however. Regards, Jim Evans Date: 01/27/15 11:48 Re: Early BN PNW foreign power? Author: WAF I remember some early 70s SP GP35s on the BN in OR
