Nostalgia & History > Something You Won't See AgainDate: 01/27/15 07:34 Something You Won't See Again Author: RDG630 Back in 1984 Conrail had abandoned use of the so called "Hill Track" which was the original Reading Company East Penn Branch over Temple Hill just east of Reading, Pa. The Reading Company constructed the Blandon Low Grade line in 1955 to avoid the steeper grade over the hill. In 1984. about a month after Conrail cut off the line (but had not yet removed the track) the Blandon Low grade line sank into a quarry causing CR to reopen the Hill Track. So, here are some scenes from that brief time.

The top of the rail on the right is still well polished, and the torch-cut end is still grey rather than rusty. I'd bet it was cut earlier that morning. Where did it go and why was it removed?

Where did it > go and why was it removed? sinkhole collapsed the track cut off to the right ... the track the train is on was due for abadondment but was postponed because of the sinkhole ...
