Chessie at the Depot
Author: BNSF-6432

Need some help on this pair of images as far as location wise. These are a couple more of my dad's already scanned slides so info is limited, however they were in a pool of images around Blue Island so possibly in that area, however I'm not familiar with that area at all.

1) Conductor of C&O 7556 leans out for a TO pickup at the depot

2) 7568 comes by in the other direction to do some switching it appears

Really nice to see RR people as well as the trains. Hooping up orders was a great ritual to watch.

I'm not convinced that's Blue Island. To me it looks like a Single track main, possibly on the Pere Marquette up in Michigan.

I was thinking somewhere on the old PM as well, but for the life of me I can't come up with a station that was that close to a large bridge on any line that was capable of handling six-axle units. I hope somebody else gets it!

Wasn't aware Larry from the Three Stooges also was a conductor for Chessie? Nice shots.

These were not taken any near Blue Island, Il. BI has four bridges.

I don't have the answer but for B&O / C&O experts I see some clues.

1. The train order signal. Some roads had distinctive shapes.

2. Seeing the passenger platforms, obviously this was a passenger stop at one time.
The two platforms lead me to believe that there are two mains or a single main and siding here.

3. The sign along the right of the bridge is, I assume, a No Trespassing sign. Some roads also
had distinctive shapes for those.

4. Paint color of the depot.

5. Type of low switch target by road crossing.

6. Six axle C&O power in the lead on both trains.

7. Picture 2 looks like welded rail getting ready to be laid. Is that partial view of MW equipment
on the other main / siding distinctive in any way?

Perhaps answers can narrow it down to B&O, PM or C&O of Indiana?

Can we see the pictures taken around Blue Island? Please, Please.........

That's Monroe MI on the Saginaw-Toledo main line. The bridge pictured crosses the River Raisin & the traffic is waiting on M-50 for the train to cross. Monroe was a part time agency & T.O. office.

Looks like a loco frame behind the train in the second picture.

Lol. That's better than Michigoose...!

Lived in Monroe for two years when I worked at C&O's Northern Region office in Southfield. First daughter was born there.

I noticed it as well and wonder what it is. It looks like it has a wheel inspection sticker on it (black square with yellow dot).

Pretty cool photos any idea on the date of them? Norfolk Southern is replacing the 100 year old bridge almost right next to this
one they started last year and should be done this summer.

I'm lost as to this location being Monroe Michigan. Unable to match the photo bridge design to the bridges shown in Google aerial photos, though agree it appears there have been many changes in the surrounding urban landscape. Can someone name the street crossing the railroad and river/waterway?

Here is a July, 2014 Google street view of the bridge.

The station and platforms are long gone. But in this reverse view,
the boxcar unloading platform is still there.
