Bayshore Roundhouse Update, 1-30-15
Author: drumwrencher

Discovery Networks came out to Bayshore today. They are filming a documentary on Bayshore roundhouse and it's one time impact on the area. They brought their drone with them. I thought it was just another "toy" drone, until I found out it cost something like ten grand! It's a drone, camera, GPS, gyro, all the bells and whistles.

Anyway, here goes:

1: Just a shot of stall 40, the old Paint Shop. If you look close, you can see the drone. That kid flew that damn thing everywhere...

2: A quick shot of the "pilot", working from stall 24. (Now THAT shows some of the work yet to be done!)

The "toy" flying over our heads, until...

4: He crashed into a willow tree! No harm done.

5: Hogheaded, tonyj, johnw, and anyone else who has seen the Bayshore Closing video - this one's for you folks. I didn't realize it till Melissa (my daughter) and I were on our way home, but they interviewed me in the same stall that my dad was interviewed in, some 32 years before... thought that was kinda cool, I dunno... (Looked a lot better then!)

What Walter? You didn't have a BBQ going in that stall?

Ha! Come on Tony, you know the BBQ's back at Bayshore Kitchenette! Besides, we don't have a big enough table for all the food...!

I am curious as to why Discovery is filming at Bayshore as what kind of impact does a vast area of open land have on the area? It should have re-developed years ago?

If you put your photos under UV light, I suspect that you might find a number of benevolent ghosts, including you dad, photobombing them.

Ed - you ever have a locomotive "smile" at you? Well, I was clearing out stall 40 yesterday, and I swear the old roundhouse was smiling down on me. Maybe.

LOL! That broke the spell Walter! While I had a soft spot for certain locomotives, I'm not sure that the sentiment was ever returned.

You never know Walter, you never know...

That is definitely cool Walter, no doubt about it! Nice that the old roundhouse is getting some national (even international since Discovery Network programs go around the world!) attention from the media too!

Okay, I didn't mean to sound like one of those psycho-babble baloney guys...! Just feels good to do something positive, especially for a place like that, what with my family history there and all.

The "smile" thing actually stemmed from one of my dad's favorite jokes about run 8 on a Train Master vs run 8 on an EMD. He said the TM would take off like hell, but the EMD would still transition, like "a horse would just turn around and smile" when you hit it with a buggy whip...

I never saw a locomotive smile, either...!

Walter, you hit my funny bone because I always found locos to be such ornery, contrary beasts. That's what made ridin' 'em so much fun.
