Southern Passenger Train #21 Scheduling question
Author: krm152

The question I have relates to the scheduling of Train #21 through Winston Salem in order to date a photo.
A post “History by Timetable: 50 years ago on the Southern” on 07/08/10 by bandob includes a copy of Southern TT dated January 10, 1960. This TT shows Train #21 arriving Winston Salem at 7:55 AM and departing at 9:45AM. This is a 1 Hr 50 Min extended stop.
One of the things done during this stop was to drop off the New York – Winston Salem Pullman. Obviously this did not take anywhere near the total time taken for this stop.
The question I have is how many years beyond 1960 did Train #21 make an extended stop in Winston Salem?
ALLEN.

czephyr17, that lasted for a few years. By July 1967, it was scheduled to arrived at 8:20 a.m. and depart at 8:30 a.m. I believe the train was discontinued in 1968. The next ORG I have is October 1969, and it shows only Train 15 arriving at 7:40 a.m. and departing at 7:50 a.m.

The February 1967 Official Guide still shows the extended time at Winston-Salem. The June Guide has the shorter time, 820am to 830am, with a timetable effective date of April 30, 1967. Southern reissued their system public timetables on April 30, 1967, so that is likely the date change for the schedule revision at Winston-Salem.
