Variety The Spice of Like, Not As Much Today
Author: Sneebly

I used to meet a good friend of mine for Lunch at the 12th Street overpass in Kansas City KS over the Santa Fe east entrance to Argentine yard. Here we have 3 trains all for your enjoyment. All images were taken between December 1991 and February 1992.

1. CNW 8528 W a new C40-8 on a manifest. I wonder if this unit survives today
2. CRR 6472 leads what was the 213 train which ran from Elkhart IN to KCK via the Streator connection.
3. We have to have a ATSF train, this time a flare that is not a 6 axle but (like the much more common SD45) a 4 axle GP40X, on what was likely the SCHLA1 which stood for stacks Chicago to Los Angeles.

I was sitting at 12th street one time, about this same time of year, and watched bald eagles flying down to catch fish in the river, then fly back to the trees on the south bank, not far from where out engine was sitting. I watched one of them land with some kind of fish about a foot long, which he quickly shreaded to pieces with his claws and gobbled up. City birds.
