Nostalgia & History > Maroon Monday: Painted overDate: 03/30/15 07:53 Maroon Monday: Painted over Author: santafe199 Here’s a bittersweet scene if you’re a fan of the ‘Mighty Fine Line’. Much of Rock Island’s motive power & general rolling stock survived The Rock’s March 1980 demise. But so did a considerable number of Rock Island’s bay window cabeese. Here’s a string of them at Council Bluffs, freshly painted into UP yellow.

I had always wondered how UP ended up with BW cabooses have having the cupola type for so many years. Regards, Jim Evans Date: 03/30/15 08:05 Re: Maroon Monday: Painted over Author: Bob3985 That is an awesome photo Lance. Good work. I remember riding them when just the ends were yellow.
Bob Krieger Cheyenne, WY Date: 03/30/15 08:50 Re: Maroon Monday: Painted over Author: boejoe Didn't some bay window cabeese also come to UP from Western Pacific?
Date: 03/30/15 09:54 Re: Maroon Monday: Painted over Author: trainjunkie UP acquired bay window cars from MP, WP, and CRIP, probably a few from CNW and SP as well. But they had their own too. Don't forget the CA-11/CA-11M and CA-12 shorty bay window cars, which were built new for UP, started showing up in 1979.

I wasn't aware that the UP bought any original cabooses with the patio ends. Rick Date: 03/30/15 16:16 Re: Maroon Monday: Painted over Author: 3rdswitch What a neat shot!
