Working on the railroad; the SJVR
Author: dlbowen

There are lots of "hardware" photos of railroads but fewer people photos.  Here are a few people photos from the early days of the San Joaquin Valley Railroad headquarted in Exeter, CA

1. Bill Graham on the left was the shop foreman, he had another fancy  title but he was the boss. He was a retired SP electrician from the Sacramento Locomotive works.  A fine gentleman. then 2 short term employees then Paul Goins.  Bill got the purple shaft with the barbed cluster when Fred Krebs left for the New York and Atlantic and his replacement fired Graham. The replacement was fired shortly himself!  Goins was the next shop foreman and he stayed in that position until a few years ago.
2. The SJVR office ladies in 1992 the only long term employee was the lady in the middle.   She was still there a few years ago.
3. SJVR GM Fred Krebs on the ATSF caboose on the 05-21-92 OLS

Wonderful memories and a good reminder that none of these trains we love to photograph would be running without the men and women who work for the railroad. Thanks for posting.
