Toto Tuesday: Oldtimers Sneaking In Under Yellow Paint
Author: PRose

In the erly 80s, the UP KP line across Kansas was host a myriad of foreign power.  It was mostly run through power on horsepower hours pay back.  Whatever the reason, it was
a great time for rainbow engine consists.
Flash ahead into the 90s.  The UP had merged, taken over and or bought some of the railroads whose colorful locomotives once graced our prairie.  Inevitably, those colorful lashups
underwent the amalgamation into yellow and gray.  But they were still around.
Witness the UP 146, ex Mop B23-7 4646 and UP 597, ex MKT GP40 228, posing at the sand tower in Salina in 1993.
If locomotives could talk, maybe the discussion between the two would be,  "Alway liked it out here.  Good to see you again."
