More from Cajon Way Bck When
Author: tehachcond

One of the great things about being a railfan back in the 60s was making friends with the train order operators at Summit.  I have great memories of Chard Walker, Sue Warren, Fred Zickler, and Roy Higginson.  I could tell you stories about all of them.  Sue was quite reserved at first, but once you got to know her, she was a huge wealth of information about the history of the whole Summit Valley area and would tell you stories all evening.  Roy was a country and western music fan, and between trains, we would listen to his country and western collection. All have since passed on, but the memories remain.  Fred even let me  give some OS's to the DS.
Here are three black and white images from that era.

1.  No. 18, the Super Chief-El Capitan passing the old Summit depot.  Yes, the crew was forewarned about my powerful flash.

2.  Brand new FP-45's westbound on No. 23, the Grand Canyon.

3.  No. 23 had plenty of power today.

Thanks for looking, and as always, comments welcome.

First photo that I can recall seeing of FP45's with F's.  Did that only occur with just delivered FP45's?

Not sure, but I think so.  I never saw this combination again.
