Nostalgia & History > In name only.Date: 05/21/15 08:13 In name only. Author: tomstp Arriving at the eastern edge of downtown Dallas in the mid 1950's is train #15,The Texan, one of those "named" trains that were more popular with mail and express than passengers. The Texas & Pacific had a couple of those trains including #7. Each would have only one or two coaches and no food service. They stopped at every cow trail for mail and express but few passengers.
This train shows an innovative attempt to solve E unit non availability. T&P thought 18 E units could cover its passenger operations. But it could not. Therefore it converted 4 F-7 A units and 4 B units to passenger gearing. At first the units kept their freight paint scheme. Later they were all painted in the passenger scheme.
