Maroon Monday Commuter

CRIP 400, a Faribanks Morse H15-44 built in 1948, picking up commuters at the Beverly Hills Station at 91st Street and the  B&OCT crossing [Edit: see correction in the comments below] on the southside of Chicago on December 31, 1964.  Take a second to look at the depot.

Enjoy,

Nice shot, the depot is full of character and what would seem to be additions. The madness of a walkway across the diamonds with no apparent protection and the lack of those small step up platformss one wonders how people survived. Oh wait, 1964........

That's right.  My take is that in 1964 we didn't have as many lawyers ready to get you big money if you stub your toe.

Actually those are the PRR (Panhandle) PCCC&StL diamonds.
To the left is east towards many more towers and railroad crossings: Wash Hgts (RI Main Line),
West Pullman (IC Blue Island Branch), Riverdale (B&OCT) and Dolton (C&WI and IHB).

Behind you and on the other side of the tracks is RI 91st St. Tower.  A block to the west on the PRR is
Beverly Jct. Tower where the PRR crosses the B&OCT and they both head towards 75th St.

GREAT PICTURE.  In the early 60's we lived along the Suburban Line and the morning parade would
stop with the engines about 300' from my bedroom window.  The 400's were an everday sight as I
was getting ready for school.

Wonderful photo!  Lots of character there.  I hope you don't mind if I share a current view, taken May 13th.

Why would I mind.  Lot's of changes.  I wonder why in my photo the pointed roof on the tower was missing.

And you took your shot in anticipation of my posting! Excellent.

I thought that was interesting too; must've rotted out years ago then been replaced at some time.
