RR trucks look rather small when carrying a box car but much different when a person is working on them.

I agree and they very well illustrate your point of "perspective."

But it is surprizing how easily they roll.  Stopping them is more fun!

Just takes a little piece of wood to stop them!

Before transferring to engine service in '79, I was a carman, and did plenty of that kind of work. Amazing how fast a set of trucks can be removed from under a car, less than ten minutes. Remove the cotter key & knock out the pin for the brake rod, jack it up, and roll it out.

They trust their well being to a jack on a pile of stuff.  Wonder how often a jack slips.

In the shops and an the wheel trucks, they always had a supply of 4"x 4"x 3/4" pieces of plywood. The rule was, and still is, never jack metal to metal, also use wood in between. (NEVER TURN YOUR BACK IF THE CAR'S ON A JACK )

As far as trusting the jack with their well-being, it seems to me that the brake rodR + R  work is done with the car on the truck, right?  Then finish the lift, roll in, roll out, drop down.  So when are they under it with only a jack holding it?
