A Proud Hoghead and his Hog
Author: drumwrencher

What more can I say, except I'm hoping someone might recognize this fellow.  Does anyone know the location?  Ol' JR had the photo in his San Jose collection, but if you've been following this stuff, ya know that ain't always the right folder...  And I really am just trying to ID these photos for posterity. I am grateful for any light anyone might be able to help shine on the subjects. They will all eventually make it to SF Trains website, or Facebook pages.

Thanks in advance

Thank you! Any idea if Mr. Miller is still with us?

I've been comparing this and other photos, and I *think* he's near Lenzen roundhouse. I haven't found enough clear photographic evidence yet, but that certainly resembles the signal bridge just north of the house,  with the sheetmetal building near it, and it *looks like* the turntable fencing behind the locomotive... Either way, thanks again.

Kirk is still around. He had to retire about 5 1/2 years ago due to a heart problem. Stil is doing great though. I am going to send him this photo and see if he can ID it.

That's good to know. If he would like, I have a much higher resoloution photo I'd be happy to give him.

Walter,
I just talked to Kirk. He said that was not him, but a fellow by the name of Tom Wise.

Looks like Mike Nichols, a pool one engineer from Oakland. He just retired from the Durango and Silverton RR  last October after 45years  with SP and the D and S.........

I think Kirk Miller is correct about it being Mr. Wise but I believe his first name was Ron rather than Tom. I believe he disappeared from the SP San Jose terminal sometime in the 1980's but can't recall the reason and have no clue as to what happened to him thereafter.
