Nostalgia & History > Rock Island BallastDate: 07/02/15 18:12 Rock Island Ballast Author: Bob3985 Here is a GM&O RS-1 delivering the ballast to the Rock Island in Joliet, IL.Note the great condition of the Rock Island yard trackage. This ballast came from the Vulcan Gravel pit in South Joliet off the GM&O mainline.

Just dump it up to the top of the rail head and let the trains pack it in....
