Cool stuff Don. I never did get a chance to explore that area but remember a few family drives through there. What's left of the SJVR in Exeter?

Great stuff Don! Where is Fane? Is Venice Hill just south of Ivanhoe?

Exeter is still HQ and locomotive shop on SJVR. Trains to both Goshen and Fresno originate/terminate there on weekdays.

Fane  is north of 198 a couple of miles on the old ATSF line.  I think that there are still remains of the  trestle shown; at least there were in 2013 when we left the area.  Venice Hill is where Road 180 crosses the former SP Exeter branch line southeast of Ivanhoe. IMHO GW is the most serious about running a profitable operating railroad than any of the SJVR owners.

Absolutely true about GW. The Fresno-Dinuba portion was upgraded in 2012-2014. This year, Dinuba to Exeter got 15,000 new ties, about 7000 tons of ballast and a surfacing. Looks very different today!
