That doesn't look like rail cars. They look like Front Runner cars. The two axle, single trailer flats.

Great series' over the past couple of days featuring the Second District in the 70's and 80's, Jay!

Until it was replaced during the Gold Line rebuild, most of the rail on the second district was placed in 1953.

That is the ATSF caboose that is stored at Fullerotn these days. Southern California Scenic Railway Association.

Regarding the rail dates on the Santa Fe 2nd District--1953-54 would have been shortly after the much of Pacfic Electric Northern District was abandoned.  Interlocking towers and crossing diamonds were removed in Lamanda Park and Arcadia, and the Colorado Blvd crossing was not needed after the Oak Knoll Line was abandoned in 1950.  Some of the 1953 CF&I rail was salvaged, had the ends cropped, and was welded into rail for the Gold Line yard and tail tracks.

3)  "RMS" is Evraz Rocky Mountain Steel, the successor to Colorado Fuel & Iron.  Evraz is a Russian based multinational company.  Back in 1953 anyone suggesting that the Colorado steel mill would some day belong to the Russkies would have his sanity called into question.

Looks like the train has one of the short lived Santa Fe Ten Packers between the power and caboose. Not a rail train. Nice catch with the freshly shopped cab. The ten packs were a ten unit articulated car that held ten trailers, had small diameter wheels with no brake shoes on the trucks on each end making for poor braking thus their short lives.
