Some ATSF prior to 210 freeway
Author: cewherry

Seeing some recent views of Santa Fe's Second District in southern California brought to mind these
from 1960 and 1965. My notes show the F's are on No. 20, The Chief, some time in 1960 (Thanks ATSF 3751 for the prompt).
ATSF employee timetable No. 6 from 1961 shows this  train carded out of Chapman, 1.5 miles west of Santa Anita at 12:44 PM.
The depot pictures date from 1965. It was dis-assembled brick-by-brick and moved onto the grounds of the Los Angeles County Arboretum, a short distance south, in 1970.  Thanks to TO's member 'gyralite' and fellow members of the Monrovia Model Railroad Club who assisted in the task we can view this historic structure today.

Great shots Charlie. Looks a bit earlier then 1965. Those F's still have their skirting and are without windshield grabs.

And for the folks who complain about graffitti, check out the graffitti on the station.
It's not just a modern day "problem".

Looks like a water column overgrown with some type of vegetation.

I think the "water column" is a defunct palm tree.  Would there have been need for a water column between Los Angeles and San Bernardino?  In the ancient times, there was a local passenger train that left Azusa in the morning and returned from LA in the afternoon, but it didn't last long after the Pacific Electric line was completed to Glendora in 1907.
