Kent in CArmel Valley Date: 10/09/15 08:18 Re: few Friday Flares . . . Author: ntharalson Am I the only one that noticed the "SD45-2" stencil on the MRL engine? Did they really, and how many, rebuild
SD45's to Dash 2 standards? I hadn't heard of that before. Nick Tharalson, Marion, IA Date: 10/09/15 09:03 Re: few Friday Flares . . . Author: ExSPCondr The bottom picture of the SP 7479 is a Dash-2. The SP rebuilt 167 of their SD45s (7400-7566) into SD45-2s at Sacramento during the GRIP (General Rehabilitation and Improvement Program) during the mid seventies and into the early eighties.
In the cab, and looking at the electrical compartments, you couldn't tell them from a brand new -2. The only giveaways were the flares and the flexicoil trucks. The MRL unit has flares and flexicoil trucks, but if it is former SP, the nose has been replaced. Edited 1 time(s). Last edit at 10/09/15 09:08 by ExSPCondr. You can tell by the GRIP battery box door and split doors under the cab. Date: 10/10/15 00:06 Re: few Friday Flares . . . Author: mwbridgwater MP555 Wrote:

Filled in... I would presume, is probably more accurate > The MRL unit is ex-SP. You can tell by the GRIP > battery box door and split doors under the cab. Also, the two louvers on the front of the dynamic brake housing; another GRIP modification. Edited 1 time(s). Last edit at 10/10/15 00:09 by mwbridgwater.
