The prettiest spot on the Espee was...
Author: Copy19

...just west of Verdi, Nev. on the Overland Route.  Here is a westbound nearing the California state line.  It's June 25, 1971.

Love that spot- the signal bridge is even still there, minus signals of course.

Although nice catch at a nice spot I think you might get a few other opinions concerning THE "prettiest" place  ;-)

Great shots!  But sorry, it doesn't get any better than a westbound emerging from tunnel 7 with sun on the nose, deep shadows on the cliffs and donner lake in the background...

Nice to see things were normal back home while I was rotting in Vietnam.  The photo would have been better with F's, but they were fading from history by '71.

The road on the right is now part of the Tahoe Pryamid bike (mountain) trail.  The trail parallels the Truckee, TMWA water works and the railroad.  The trail has 4 short steep sections to climb until you reach the Fleisch dam so it is not for beginners.  I found the scenery very enjoyable because it is completely different than what you see from the freeway.  Railroad brudge near the dam.

Great Photos JB!! I wish that I had a few SP trains to go along with my many UP and Amtrak shots from that location. Thanks for the post!!
