SP8875 west at Shed 10 mid-1960's

SP8875 leads a westbound out of Shed 10 in the mid-1960's. I Had just gotten out of the Army and I wanted to get some photos of the new SD45's which came to the SP while I was away. It was kind of sad to see my beloved F units playing second fiddle to the new guy on the block.

Excellent shot, Bob. Would have loved been trackside back in those days!

Thanks for sharing,

Nice composition Bob.  I like how you framed the fir tree, which really adds to the shot.  Any idea what that wooden substructure might have been for?  A speeder setout perhaps?

Yes, it was for motorcars/speeders to safely set off the mains.

That really is an interesting lash-up...  it looks so unusual, but I'm not quite sure why.

Excellent, Bob. Did you ever run into Dick Steinheimer on your travels around the state?

I never ran into Dick Steinheimer while out shooting in the 60's and 70's however in later years we became Friend's. Here we are giving a thumbs up to a new SD70 at Dunsmuir. It was his photography that inspired me to try and take better photos. His talent as a photographer was second to none. A great person who has left a lasting photographic record of what once was and will never be again.

Maybe, but at least they were still in the band! Excellent material as always Robert.
